The "Technische Universität Braunschweig" has recorded a significant increase in applications for the 2026/27 Erasmus+ programme. With a total of 200 submissions, this figure is well above the average of around 150 applications received in recent years. Francesco Ducatelli, Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator at TU Braunschweig, is delighted with this development. One key factor behind this success is, according to Ducatelli, the “Study Abroad Fair”, an annual internal event organised by the International House in close cooperation with all faculties.

The fair’s atmosphere is characterised by personal interaction and open exchange, helping to address and dispel potential reservations about studying abroad. During one-to-one counselling sessions, students receive comprehensive information on opportunities to study abroad, to undertake internships and to take part in language courses. The fair offers a diverse programme, including the award ceremony for a photography competition and, this year, a talk on funding opportunities for stays abroad as well as a country quiz.

Highlight: Photography competition

As in previous years, TU Braunschweig is organising a photography competition in 2026. This year, the theme is “Change of Perspective”. Students who have completed a study- or work-related stay abroad during the current academic year were invited to submit a photograph they took during their time away. The five winners will each receive a city voucher, redeemable at participating shops in Braunschweig. The winning photographs will be presented to the higher education institution community at the “Study Abroad Fair” on 27 November 2026. The images speak for themselves, sparking curiosity as well as offering new perspectives and showing that it is well worth taking the plunge and gaining new experiences abroad. The competition also aims to inspire students who have not yet considered studying abroad to take that opportunity.

In the new “Spotlight” section of our online magazine, we will showcase particularly successful initiatives by higher education institutions that promote and support studying abroad. These initiatives serve as examples of best practice, demonstrating how creativity and commitment can inspire young people to discover the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programme, while also helping higher education institutions to advance their internationalisation goals.
